Student answer (Band 6.0)

I strongly believe that people these days are less curious to find out about new places; in fact they are more interested in showing others that they've visited the place. In my view, the society has completely transformed, and social media had played a major role in this. Nowadays people blindly follow social media trends. I think it is a negative trend, as people are loosing themselves and forgoing their personal choice only to show others that they are up to date.

For example, if someone hates going to the mountains but all his friends are visiting mountains and sharing their pictures, that person would neglect his personal choice just to follow the trend. Therefore, people nowadays visit well-known places just to follow the trend and upload their pictures to show others that they've also visited that place.

These days, when someone visits a well-known place, he or she uploads the picture on social media platforms such as snapchat, facebook, instagram, etc. If the pictures becomes viral, everyone starts visiting that place and sharing their pictures on social media to get viral too.

Social media has removed the concept of confidentiality from our society. People share their day to day routine and even all their special moments.

In conclusion, I would say that it is a very negative trend, and it is severely impacting our society. People just want to follow the latest social media trends and show others that they are up to date. However, in this process people are lossing themselves, including their personal choice and are becoming artificial.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear throughout: you consider the trend negative and explain it mainly through social-media pressure and the desire to show others that one has visited a place. The example of someone going to the mountains despite disliking them supports this view, and you address both why the behaviour occurs and whether it is positive or negative. This meets the task well, while some ideas are less fully developed: the claim that social media has removed “confidentiality” is not clearly connected to taking photographs, and the effects of focusing on selfies rather than the destination could be explained more directly. To strengthen the response further, develop these links and add a more specific example of what visitors miss by prioritising photographs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, supporting paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main position is easy to follow. However, progression between ideas is limited: the second and third paragraphs repeat the point that people visit places to follow trends and post pictures, rather than extending the explanation. Connectors such as “For example,” “Therefore,” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships, but some links feel mechanical, and “These days” restarts an idea without showing how it develops from the previous paragraph. The paragraph about sharing daily routines also feels detached from the central question. Group related points, avoid repeating the same claim, and use clearer references to show how each example supports your argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the central argument, including relevant phrases such as “social media trends,” “personal choice,” and “well-known places.” There is some variation in expression, but several key words and ideas recur, especially “show others,” “follow the trend,” and “social media,” which makes the response less precise. A few choices are inaccurate or awkward: “confidentiality” does not express the likely idea of privacy, and “get viral” is not the natural collocation. Spelling errors such as “loosing” and “lossing” also affect accuracy. Aim for more precise terms for social approval and online sharing, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentences, and most of the meaning remains clear. For example, the sentence beginning “For example, if someone hates going to the mountains…” uses a conditional structure effectively, while the conclusion combines related ideas in a longer sentence. Some grammatical errors remain. In “the society has completely transformed,” the article is unnecessary; “social media had played” should use the present perfect, “has played,” to match the current relevance. There are also agreement errors in “the pictures becomes viral” and “people are lossing themselves,” as well as an awkward construction in “are becoming artificial.” Review subject–verb agreement, tense consistency and sentence construction, while continuing to use varied structures.
