Student answer (Band 6.0)

This modern trend of bringing yourself to the centre of attention while visiting places is something which was born with the birth of social media platforms like Instagram,Tiktok,Snapchat etc has subsequently diminshed the true experience of visiting famous places which one used to feel before phones ever existed.

Social Media is the new big thing in today's world which has changed the lives of people in numerous ways like mainly becoming a source of income for many people who are called Social Media Influencers these days. The majority of the influencers have set their niche on media in such a way that they would to glorify themselves more instead of giving importance to a famous place they visit.

Apart from that the new stigma of carrying your social status has bound people in many ways to experince realism across the globe.Social status unfortunately is more important for people than their own self respect let alone the other aspects. The Phi Phi Island in Thailand is considered the most visited place in the world and this credit all goes to social media and I myself have been victim of it as when i travelled to Thailand in 2025 so I vigorously wanted to visit that island first becuase of the curiosity social media created in my mind;though i visited it but suprisingly another place called the Similian Island mesmerized me more though it was never brought up in my Instagram feed while I was searching for famous places across Thailand

In a temporary time frame social media might help you uplift your personality to make you an extrovert even if you were an introvert before but in the longer terms it is cheating with the best lens in the world which are your eyes which are not able to see extraodrinary forms of nature and art of the world and this is something we humans dont deserve for oursleves to be taken away by a force of technology.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both questions: social media and influencer culture are presented as causes, and your final paragraph makes clear that you see the trend as negative. The personal example about choosing Phi Phi Island because of online content, then being more impressed by Similan Island, is relevant and helps illustrate how social media can shape visitors’ priorities. This meets the task well, and the reflection about missing nature and art shows some development beyond simply stating an opinion. However, the explanation of social status is less clear, and the positive point about helping introverts become more extroverted is introduced but not fully weighed against your negative view. Develop these ideas more explicitly and connect each example to your overall judgement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable progression: it introduces social media, explains influencer behaviour, gives a personal travel example, and ends with your judgement. Paragraph breaks also help separate these stages. However, the overall development is not consistently easy to follow because several ideas are packed into very long sentences, particularly the Thailand example. Connections such as “Apart from that” and “In a temporary time frame” are either imprecise or do not clearly show the relationship between points. The shift from the possible benefit of becoming more extroverted to the conclusion that the trend is harmful could also be signposted more clearly. Use shorter units of thought, clearer topic sentences, and transitions that explicitly show contrast or cause and effect.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonably varied vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “source of income,” “social status,” “curiosity,” “mesmerized,” and “extraordinary forms of nature and art.” These choices help convey both the influence of online platforms and your personal reaction to travel. There are also attempts at more expressive phrasing, such as “the best lens in the world,” although this metaphor is not entirely natural in context. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear, including “set their niche on media,” “carrying your social status,” and “in a temporary time frame.” Spelling slips such as “diminshed,” “experince,” and “becuase” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and proofread carefully while retaining your range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of sentence forms, including relative clauses and complex explanations, for example “which has changed the lives of people in numerous ways” and the sentence describing your visit to Thailand. However, complex sentences are often not controlled successfully, and several run-on constructions make relationships between clauses difficult to follow. The opening sentence lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “the majority of the influencers … they would to glorify themselves” has problems with clause structure and verb form. There are also inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation choices, such as joining clauses with a semicolon without clear spacing. Practise separating independent clauses, checking subject–verb and verb-form patterns, and using full stops to make your meaning easier to follow.
