Student answer (Band 6.0)

Majority of individuals these days visit popular places to take pictures of themselves, without looking at the location. This is because they want to put their photos on social media websites to gain attention among peers, and it is a negative trend becuase it is ethically wrong.

Individuals want to show of their lifestyle on social media. They want to gain acceptance in their social circle, and they want to set higher standards in their friend circle. Men and women want their social groups to appreciate them for their activites, so they click photos while visiting a spot, and they do not pay much attention to attractions they visit. For instance, when people visit Taj Mahal, they capture themselves so that they can post online, and they do not pay heed in exploring the place well.

This is a negative development because it is morally not good to do so. These sites can be culturally significant to residents of a place, so it can hurt their feelings if more and more people would not pay attention to locations they visit. This would not only create a bad impression on indigenous people but also lower moral values in a country. For instance, While visiting Golden Temple, if people just click their pictures without exploring the temple, it can set a bad example on younger generation because it is not a right thing to do so.

To conclude, in order to show the standard of living, people capture their images and post on online platforms, but it is a negative thing because it decreases ethical values of a nation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions and maintain a clear negative position, giving a relevant explanation that people seek social approval and want to display their lifestyle online. The Taj Mahal example helps illustrate how taking photos can distract visitors from the site. Your explanation of the negative effects is less fully developed: the claim that this behaviour is “ethically wrong” and may hurt residents’ feelings is asserted, but the link between taking selfies and lowering a country’s moral values is not clearly demonstrated. To strengthen the response, explain more specifically what visitors miss or how their behaviour affects the site and its community, and develop the reasons with more precise examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the cause and your opinion, and a conclusion that restates your position. Ideas generally progress in a logical order, and examples are placed alongside the points they support. However, connections between some claims are not fully clear. For example, the move from visitors’ lack of attention to “lower moral values in a country” needs an explicit explanation. Repeated references to social groups and ethical values also make the progression feel somewhat repetitive. Use clearer links to show cause and effect, and make sure each paragraph develops one central point rather than restating it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “gain acceptance,” “culturally significant,” and “indigenous people.” These choices help communicate your ideas, though some less common expressions are not used naturally or precisely. For example, “set higher standards in their friend circle” does not clearly express the intended idea, while “pay heed in exploring” is an awkward collocation. There are also spelling and word-form errors, such as “becuase,” “activites,” and “show of.” Aim for more natural combinations and precise wording, and proofread carefully so these errors do not distract from otherwise understandable points.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because,” “so that,” and “if,” and your meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain. For example, “if more and more people would not pay attention” uses an unsuitable conditional form; “if people just click their pictures” would be more accurate as “if people just clicked their pictures” in this hypothetical example. The sentence beginning “This would not only create…” also needs a parallel “but also” construction, such as “but also lower…”. Review conditional structures, verb forms, and parallel phrasing. More consistently accurate complex sentences would make your argument easier to follow.
