Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years many people visits famous places just to take photos instead of enjoying the place. I think this is happening because of social media and in my opinion this is a negative trend.

The main reason for this behaviour is social media. Nowadays many people use facebook Instagram and tiktok everyday. Because they want show it to their friends that they have visited this famous places like boracay or Stonehenge. For example in the philippines many tourists go to chocolate hills just to take photos and without learning about it's history. People feel happy when they get many likes and comments on their photos when they post it on social media websites. So they care more about pictures that the expirience.

I believe this is a negative trend for several reasons. Firstly people are not appreciating the culture and it's beauty of the place. They spend only a couple of minutes just to take photos and move to the next place. Secondly this can be dangerous people take photos on cliffs or in the middle of the roads just to get attention. Just last year their news reports about tourists having accidents because of this.

In conclusion i think taking photos is normal and i think it's become a problem because people focus way too much on social media. People should enjoy and learn about its history. Not just to take pictures and post it online

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions: social media is identified as the cause, and you clearly judge the trend negatively. The examples of tourists at Chocolate Hills and people taking risky photographs support your position, while the conclusion restates it. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. The explanation that visitors seek likes is relevant, but you could clarify why online approval leads them to overlook the place itself. The danger point is also brief: “their news reports” does not identify a specific incident or explain its consequences. The response is 12 words below the required minimum, so add relevant development rather than padding—for example, explain how this behaviour affects visitors’ understanding of local culture.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph explaining the cause, a paragraph giving reasons for your negative view, and a conclusion. Sequencing is easy to follow, and signposts such as “The main reason,” “Firstly,” and “Secondly” help the reader track your points. This already gives the essay a coherent progression. To make the links more flexible and precise, avoid relying mainly on basic listing words and connect each example explicitly to the claim it supports. For instance, after the Chocolate Hills example, explain how taking photographs instead of learning about the site illustrates the effect of social media. The final paragraph also repeats earlier points rather than drawing them together.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your ideas, including “social media,” “culture,” “history,” “likes and comments,” and “accidents.” Some choices are effective and specific, such as naming Boracay, Stonehenge, and Chocolate Hills. However, the range is limited and several phrases are imprecise or awkward, including “show it to their friends,” “pictures that the expirience,” and “get attention.” Spelling and capitalization errors, such as “facebook,” “tiktok,” and “expirience,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully; this will help you express the ideas with greater flexibility without changing your clear meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of short statements and some longer structures, including a reason clause with “because” and a sentence beginning “when they post it.” Most of the meaning remains clear, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries are present. For example, “many people visits” should be “many people visit,” and “they want show it” needs “they want to show.” The sentence “Secondly this can be dangerous people take photos…” joins two independent ideas without suitable punctuation or a linking word. There are also inconsistent capital letters at sentence beginnings. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and separating or linking clauses correctly, while continuing to use varied sentence forms.
