Student answer (Band 6.0)

Recently, popular locations are visited by many people just to get photographs of themselves. They are not looking at the beauty, meaning and value of the place. The reason behind this problem is the social media which I believe is a negative trend.

The reason for this negative trend is the social media. Nowadays, people are doing anything to get more views. The platforms are mainly given by Facebook and Instagram through internet. Young people are following trends of whatever social media influencers do. They are lean towards to get more views and comments despite of learning the importace of a place. So that their contents could go viral. As an example, we can take the famous ''Dalada'' temple in Sri Lanka. Influencers go there and take pictures of themselves with the temple. So, local people and tourists go there and get some pictures without stating what is the importance of that place. This is going on and on to different profiles and by seeing these one might wonder ''okay I should do this too''. Likewise it will continue like a chain.

Therefore, I belive this is a negative trend. This is mainly targeted the younger generation of different societies. Moreover, they are the people who are going to take the cultures to future unborn generations. If they take these meaningless pictures of the places without knowing any content, how are the future generations will know it's importance.

In conclusion, the social media influencers are the main reason to make this habbit and I believe this is a negative trend to pass it on for future generations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both questions: social media and influencer behaviour are presented as the cause, and you clearly judge the trend negatively. The example of visitors photographing themselves at the Dalada Temple makes the explanation relevant and specific. Your concern that younger people may pass on cultural knowledge also supports your position. These points give the response a clear foundation, but some are not fully developed: explain more precisely how seeking views leads people to ignore a site's history, and how this behaviour could affect future generations. The negative judgement is clear, though the discussion focuses mainly on cultural loss and could consider another consequence, such as reduced appreciation of the visit itself. More explanation and support would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph explaining the cause, a paragraph giving your view, and a conclusion. The example follows naturally from the discussion of influencers, and linking expressions such as “As an example,” “Likewise,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of your argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “Therefore” begins a paragraph that largely repeats the negative position rather than developing a new point, while “This is mainly targeted the younger generation” does not clearly connect the trend to the preceding claim. The final paragraph also repeats the introduction. Use clearer references and make each paragraph advance a distinct part of the argument to strengthen progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “influencers,” “go viral,” “cultures,” and “future generations,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “the importance of a place.” However, the range and control are uneven, with repeated use of “pictures,” “place,” and “social media,” and several inaccurate or awkward choices: “platforms are mainly given by Facebook and Instagram,” “lean towards to get more views,” and “meaningless pictures.” Spelling errors such as “importace,” “belive,” and “habb it” (written as “habbit”) also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and precise terms, such as “social networking platforms” and “documenting a visit.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional question about future generations and a sentence explaining how content may go viral. The main ideas remain understandable, but control is inconsistent, particularly in longer constructions. For example, “they are lean towards to get more views” has an incorrect verb structure, and “how are the future generations will know” combines incompatible question forms. “This is mainly targeted the younger generation” also lacks a clear grammatical relationship between the subject and verb. Review verb patterns, question word order, and sentence construction. More accurate complex sentences, alongside the simpler forms you already use, would make your reasoning clearer and more fluent.
