Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You begin appropriately by addressing Luis and offering to prepare a dish, so the purpose of the letter is partly clear. However, the response stops before fully completing the task: masala dosa is named, but it is not described, and you do not explain why it deserves a place at the event. The letter also contains only 55 words, below the required 150, leaving all three points very briefly addressed. To develop the response, explain what the dosa is made from and how it is served, then give a specific reason for its inclusion, such as its popularity or its representation of your country’s food culture. Add a suitable closing as well.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The opening follows a sensible order: you greet Luis, refer to the announcement, and then offer to cook a dish. This gives the short response a basic progression. However, the second paragraph ends abruptly after naming masala dosa, so the reader does not receive the promised description or explanation. The comma splice and capitalisation in “masala dosa, It” also interrupt the flow. Organise the letter into clear stages—your offer, a description of the dish, and reasons for including it—and use linking phrases such as “It is made with…” and “I think it would be a good choice because…”. A closing sentence would make the letter feel complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “prepare,” “international food festival,” and “popular dish,” and the reader can identify the food you are offering. However, the range is very limited because the response ends before you describe the dish or explain its appeal. There are also spelling errors in “writting,” “annoucment,” and “organisimg,” which reduce accuracy and make the writing look less controlled. Build a more specific vocabulary set for describing ingredients, preparation, taste, and cultural significance—for example, “fermented batter,” “crispy,” or “traditional South Indian dish,” if accurate. Check spelling carefully, and use natural phrases such as “in response to the announcement” rather than “in response of the announcement.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response includes simple, understandable sentence patterns, such as “I hope you are doing well” and “I would be glad to prepare…”. However, the range is narrow, and errors appear in the sentence about the dish: “It is one of the most popular dish” needs plural agreement (“dishes”), and the sentence should be separated from the preceding clause rather than joined with a comma. The phrase “I am writing in response of” also uses an incorrect preposition within the grammatical pattern; write “in response to.” Capitalise “India” and use a full stop after the dish name. Practise combining accurate simple sentences with a few longer structures to explain ingredients and reasons clearly.
