Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You offered to make biryani, described it as a combination of rice, gravy, vegetables, and protein, and explained its value as a comfort food. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the dish is quite brief, and the explanation of why it should be included could be more persuasive. To reach a higher band, try to expand on the cultural significance or the sensory appeal of the dish to make your argument more compelling.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. You have used basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'Finally' to guide the reader through your points. While the structure is clear, the flow between some sentences feels slightly mechanical. For example, the transition between describing the dish and explaining its inclusion could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. Overall, the message is coherent and easy to understand.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'authentic', 'flavours', and 'consideration'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'This situation can bring different flavours' and 'it combination of rice', which is grammatically incomplete. The phrase 'super excited' is a bit informal for a formal letter. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary choices are consistently appropriate for the formal register required in this task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'it combination of rice' should be 'it is a combination of rice', and 'participating in an event' could be phrased more naturally as 'participating in the event'. There are also minor issues with article usage and sentence construction. Despite these errors, they do not impede communication. Increasing your control over basic sentence patterns and proofreading for small omissions will help improve your score.
