Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Luis,
I hope you are doing well. I am interested to present a famous street food in this event. You know that I love to eat and cook Indian cuisine.
I would love to make "Pani Puri" which is one of the most famous street food in India. People of all ages love to eat pani puri. Its quite tricky to make but delectable. It is known by its different name in diverse places but loved by all.
Pani Puri contains two things Pani which is sweet, tangy, spicy water with mint, tamarind, coriander, Green chillies and other spices. It comes in different flavor but mint is the popular one. There is also sweet water as well. Puri is made with safolina and wheat. It is crispy and crunchy. Along with this there is a filling of potato as well. we fill water in the puries and then eat.
We should definitely include this dish in our event because I believe that students will be amazed by the way it is eaten. Some of them will definitely find it tricky to eat. It will be appreciated because of its uniqueness and the taste it offers.
Let me know that did you like my idea and contact me as soon as possible so that I can start my preparation.
Kind Regards,
Hardeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly offered to make a dish, provided a descriptive overview of 'Pani Puri', and gave a logical explanation for why it should be included in the event. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser, maintaining a friendly and professional manner throughout. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the description of the dish's components and the reasoning behind its inclusion. To reach a higher band, ensure that you fully expand on the 'why' by perhaps linking it more explicitly to the cultural exchange goals of an international students' club.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'along with this' and 'because of', though the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall progression of the letter is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'delectable', 'tangy', and 'uniqueness', which add interest to your description. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'safolina' (likely referring to semolina) and 'flavor' (which is correct but could be more varied). To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing like 'eat' and 'make' by using synonyms such as 'prepare', 'consume', or 'craft'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'I am interested to present' (should be 'in presenting'), 'Its quite tricky' (should be 'It's'), and 'Let me know that did you like' (should be 'Let me know if you liked'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more consistent control over verb forms and sentence construction. Increasing your use of varied complex structures would help elevate your score.
