Dear Luis,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

This is a reference to participate into the event of celebrating the popular food from around the word.

I would like to participate into the event by cooking the popular dish, called vadapau of my country India.

Vadapau is the easily cooked dish, in which we need the vegetables like, potatoes, and onions, and species like red chilli powder, turmeric and chat masala. for cooking this dish, we need to boil the potatoes and onions, then include all the spices mentioned above according to your taste. Fill this paste into the bun and then vadapu is ready.

The vadapau is the popular dish in my country India. This is specifically originated from mumbai city, which is the biggest city of my nation. The taste of this dish is so dilicious that, it is considered as a national food of my country. This dish is similer to the popular international dish burger. But the vadapau is the more healthier than the burger as it has the low calories and pure vegetarian. People of the event will enjoy this dish because of the taste, and healtiness of it.

Looking forward to your response.

Your's faithfully

Piyush Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You offered to make a dish, described it, and provided a clear rationale for its inclusion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat basic. For example, the description of the dish could be more vivid, and the explanation of why it should be included relies on simple comparisons to a burger. To reach a higher band, try to expand on the cultural significance or the unique sensory experience of the dish to provide more depth to your response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to the description and finally the justification. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'in which', 'then', and 'because of'. However, the paragraphing is somewhat disjointed, and the transition between the description of the dish and the justification could be smoother. Some sentences feel slightly repetitive in structure. Using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition to') would help improve the flow and make the connections between your ideas more explicit.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'originated', 'considered', and 'vegetarian'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'word' instead of 'world', 'species' instead of 'spices', 'dilicious' instead of 'delicious', and 'similer' instead of 'similar'. Additionally, there are minor collocation issues, such as 'easily cooked dish' and 'more healthier'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise word choice and careful proofreading to ensure accuracy in spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the event of celebrating the popular food') and prepositions ('participate into'). There are also issues with punctuation and capitalization, such as the comma usage in 'vegetables like, potatoes, and onions'. The closing 'Your's faithfully' is also incorrect; it should be 'Yours faithfully'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement, and try to incorporate more varied complex structures with greater accuracy.
