Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Luis,
I hope you are doing great, as I am excited to hear about organizing an event to celebrate famous food from around the globe. I have completed a culinary class in past, so I can make an interesting dish from my country.
One of the popular dishes in my nation is Dal-pakvan. Pakvan is crunchy in a taste that can be made up of either wheat flour or rice flour, so people who want to eat gluten free they can eat it. Curry is made up of a lot of ingredients, which can be very healthy for everyone.
In this event, most of the people like to eat a tangy taste, which they will find in this Dal-pakvan. I am happy to make this dish if everyone agrees with it. Please let me know by the end of this week, so I can plan accordingly. See you at the event.
Your faithfully,
Dhairya Joshi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining its inclusion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the dish is 'healthy' and has a 'tangy taste,' these points could be expanded with more descriptive detail to better persuade the organiser. The letter is clear and the purpose is well-defined, meeting the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'One of the popular dishes' and 'In this event' to link your ideas. However, the transition between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved by separating the description of the dish from the explanation of why it should be included. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the progression of ideas is logical throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'culinary class,' 'ingredients,' and 'gluten free.' There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'crunchy in a taste' (should be 'has a crunchy texture') and 'made up of' (which is used twice in close proximity). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision required for a higher band score. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and collocations would enhance your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'people who want to eat gluten free they can eat it.' However, there are several grammatical errors, including 'in past' (should be 'in the past') and 'Your faithfully' (should be 'Yours faithfully'). The sentence structure mentioned above is also slightly redundant. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
