Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Luis,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to request yo to consider my home country papoular dish for event 'Food Around The World'.
This is a Sooji Halwa and it is a sweet dish. People love to have it after finishing meal. This is an ancient dish and popular all over in my country.
Now, its praperation mentioned has modified as per the taste and convenience. Initially, Sooji needs to be roast in Ghee for a 2 minutes then add water as per the quanity of the Sooji. It will take around 10 minutes for boiling and mixing well. Now it's time add sweetner as per taste and pour some Desi Ghee again on top of it, make it more tempating.
I beleive, it is a unique and nice dish to represent in front of thr world. It has great nutrition values, and it is also used as a medicin for new momes. It helps healing internal body after delivering a baby. New generation should know about it for future reference.
I would be thankful if you could consider it for your event. I am available for further discussion.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
sincerely,
Tanvir Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly offer to make a dish, describe it as a sweet semolina-based dessert, and explain its cultural and health-related significance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven; while the description of the dish is clear, the explanation of why it should be included could be more persuasive. The letter maintains a consistent focus on the task throughout, and the purpose is clear from the beginning. To improve, ensure that the explanation of the dish's benefits is more directly linked to why it would be a successful addition to an international food event.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Initially', 'Now', and 'I believe', to transition between points. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the use of linking words could be more varied to improve the overall cohesion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task, which contributes to the overall clarity of the message.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'convenience', 'tempting', and 'significance'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'praperation', 'sweetner', 'medicin', and 'momes', which occasionally distract the reader. Additionally, some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'needs to be roast' instead of 'needs to be roasted'. While you attempt to use more specific vocabulary related to cooking and culture, these minor inaccuracies prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and refining collocations would significantly enhance your lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'request yo to consider', 'popular all over in my country', and 'time add sweetner'. There are also issues with article usage and verb forms, such as 'needs to be roast' and 'healing internal body'. Despite these errors, the communication is not impeded, and the reader can easily understand your intent. To reach a higher band, you should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater accuracy.
