Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Luis,
I am writing this to offer one of the famous cuisine of India in the upcoming event of celebrating popular food from all over the world.
Recently, I just got the news for this event in which we are going to celebrate best food from around the world. As a member of an International Students' club, I am happy to offer you to include one of the best cuisine of India which is called Vegetarian Biryani.
To be honest, this dish is one of the popular and most demanding in my country which contains different vegetables along with white rice. It can include paneers for more delicious taste and flavor. It serves it with Raita which is made of yogurt.
Although, there are few more famous cuisines in state level in my country, I believe that this is one of the most fascinating food. I would recommend this dish from my personal experience and observation in restaurants.
Thank you for your time. I hope you would think about this recommendation.
Best regards,
ABC

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: offering a dish, describing it, and explaining its inclusion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why the dish should be included is quite brief and relies on general statements rather than specific cultural or culinary benefits. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the sensory details of the dish or explain how it would specifically enhance the event's international theme. The response is clear and the purpose is well-defined throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Although' and 'To be honest', but the range is somewhat limited. Some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is a minor issue with referencing in the second paragraph where the flow between sentences could be smoother. Overall, the structure is coherent, and the paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'fascinating', 'observation', and 'cuisine'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'one of the famous cuisine' should be 'one of the famous cuisines', and 'most demanding' is not the correct term to describe a popular dish; 'in-demand' or 'popular' would be better. Additionally, 'it serves it with Raita' is grammatically incorrect and awkward. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'one of the famous cuisine' (pluralization error), 'I just got the news for this event' (preposition/collocation error), and 'It serves it with Raita' (subject-verb/pronoun error). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. The punctuation is generally accurate, which helps maintain clarity throughout the letter.
