Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to offer my suggestions regarding the event that the club is organizing it to celebrate famous dishes from all over the world.
As you know lebanese cuisine is one of the most delicious dishes in the world. So, I would like to make a popular dish from Lebanon, my origin country, It called “Tabbouleh”, It contains parsley, tomato , onion and fine bulgur. After we mix together all ingredients we add lemon and olive oil. It is delicious and everyone will love it.
I would appreciate it if you could add it because it would describe the Lebanese culture and anyone who tastes it will feel like a back home. Moreover, many of Lebanese people are living near the place where the event is happening.
Feel free to contact me I can help you prepare it.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Abed El Aziz Jamal El Dine.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You offered to make a dish, described it as a salad made of parsley, tomato, onion, and bulgur, and explained its cultural significance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. To reach a higher band, you could provide more detail on why the dish would be a great addition to the event, perhaps by mentioning its health benefits or its popularity as a vegetarian option, which would further develop your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised into clear paragraphs. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'As you know' to link your ideas. However, there are some issues with sentence structure that affect the flow, such as the run-on sentences in the second paragraph ('It called “Tabbouleh”, It contains...'). Improving your use of punctuation and conjunctions to connect these ideas more smoothly would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'cuisine', 'consideration', and 'ingredients'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'my origin country' (should be 'my home country' or 'country of origin') and 'feel like a back home' (should be 'feel like they are back home'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. Using more precise descriptive adjectives for the food would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and sentence boundaries. For example, 'the club is organizing it to celebrate' contains an unnecessary pronoun, and 'It called “Tabbouleh”' is missing the passive voice ('It is called'). Additionally, there are some punctuation errors, such as comma splices. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring each sentence has a clear subject and verb will help improve your accuracy.
