Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Luis,

Hope you are doing good. I am writing to you regarding the upcoming event that is going to held at our lions club on Friday, 31 July 2026. As we celebrating an event which brings different taste together from all around the world at one destination i am looking forward to bring the very famous cuisine from my country as well.

I would like if you could include pav bhaji, which is very authentic food of my country India. This dish represents all the spices that are naturally grown in various parts of my country and its a combination of all the vegetables and the spices blend together. It is served with the hot bun with the butter and coriander on top. This is very delicious food that i am interested in representing at the event. Apart from that, it is also very healthy and tasty that everyone will love to taste. It will also represent my cultural and the taste to all over the world.

I would be very delighted if you will take my dish as consideration for our upcoming event. Looking forward to hear back.

Yours faithfully,

Stuti

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly offered to bring a dish, provided a descriptive explanation of what pav bhaji is, and justified its inclusion by highlighting its cultural significance and health benefits. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organizer, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout. To improve, you could expand slightly on the 'why' by linking the dish more specifically to the theme of international food, perhaps mentioning how it encourages cultural exchange among students. Overall, the task is fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the offer, the description, and the closing request. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Apart from that' and 'As we are celebrating', which help the flow. However, the progression between sentences could be smoother; some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Additionally, ensure that referencing is consistent to avoid minor confusion. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the structure supports the reader's understanding of your intent.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'authentic', 'cuisine', and 'cultural significance'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'brings different taste together' (should be 'tastes') and 'take my dish as consideration' (should be 'take my dish into consideration'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher band. To improve, try to use more precise collocations and avoid repeating basic words like 'food' or 'taste' too frequently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical slips throughout the text, such as 'is going to held' (should be 'is going to be held'), 'its a combination' (should be 'it's'), and 'looking forward to hear back' (should be 'looking forward to hearing back'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not cause difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of gerunds after phrases like 'look forward to'.
