Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all three bullet points: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining why it should be included. However, the development of these ideas is very limited. The description of the dish is brief, and the explanation for its inclusion lacks depth. Crucially, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which severely impacts the ability to fully develop the response as required by the task instructions. To improve, you must expand on your ideas with more detail and descriptive language to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a basic logical structure, starting with an opening and moving through the required points. However, the paragraphing is insufficient, and there is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences smoothly. The transition between the description of the dish and the reason for its inclusion is abrupt. To improve, use linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' to connect your ideas and ensure the letter flows naturally from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is functional but basic. Phrases like 'very excited', 'special dish', and 'very delicious' are repetitive and lack the range expected for higher bands. There are also minor errors, such as 'to to' (repetition) and 'it's' (incorrect possessive form). To improve, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and topic-specific vocabulary related to food and cultural events, such as 'aromatic', 'culinary tradition', or 'globally renowned'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses simple sentence structures with some attempts at complexity. There are several grammatical errors, including 'one of the special dish' (should be 'dishes') and 'it's' (should be 'its'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of a wider range of complex structures and the presence of recurring errors limit the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct punctuation to enhance accuracy.
