Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Luis,
I am Yashraj an existing member of an International students' club. I just get to know that our club is going to host an event to celebrate famous food from all over the world. I have a small request to add a most famous dish from my country India.
This dish is known as "Pav Bhaji". It is one of the most eaten street food dish in India. The word itself says that Pav means bun and Bhaji means curry. You can have it anytime throughout your day. It is made using all basic vegetable that we use like onions, tomato, cabbage, and bell peppers and a wide range of Indian spices.
I think it should be included in the event because nowadays it is not only well known in our country but also foreign countries love it. It contains almost all nutrients and a power booster dish for your day. If I talk about the taste it is awesome.
Let me know about your thoughts and I can help with the preparation too.
Yours Sincerely,
Yashraj

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly offer to make a dish, describe it as 'Pav Bhaji' (explaining the components), and provide a rationale for its inclusion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a club member. To improve, you could expand slightly on the cultural significance of the dish to better develop your ideas, as the explanation for why it should be included is currently a bit brief. However, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'This dish is known as' and 'I think it should be included', which create a smooth flow. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', 'In addition to this') to connect your sentences more fluidly rather than relying on simple sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'preparation', 'nutrients', and 'well known'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'most famous dish' (should be 'a famous dish') and 'power booster dish' (which is slightly unnatural). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it is somewhat basic. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and descriptive adjectives to make your writing more engaging and sophisticated.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'I just get to know' (should be 'I have just learned') and 'all basic vegetable' (should be 'all the basic vegetables'). Additionally, 'If I talk about the taste it is awesome' is a bit informal and structurally weak. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading, particularly regarding verb tenses and pluralization. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
