Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I hope you find this message well. I am a member of your international club, and I am writing to offer a popular dish for the upcoming event, organizing by our club.
I recently heard that the club is organizing an event to celebrate popular food from around the world, and I am the only students from India in this students' club, I would be grateful if you could include a dish from my culture.
The dish I want to offer for this program is potato's paratha. It is an Indian savory dish, served with curd and ghee. It is special food, that is cooked when guests come at home in India. I will take the responsibility of preparing this dish.
I believe that including this food in the event will increase the variety of food served. Moreover, this food has an amazing taste, I am sure people who likes savory flavors, particularly liked it. It also helps to represent my country among different nations and allow people to aware about culture.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope you will consider my request and look forward to your prompt response.
Yours sincerely,
Harmeet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly offered to make a dish, described it as a potato-based Indian savory dish served with curd and ghee, and provided logical reasons for its inclusion, such as cultural representation and variety. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organizer. To improve, ensure that you fully develop your ideas; for instance, you could have elaborated slightly more on the cultural significance of the dish to make the response even more engaging and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a polite closing. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'I believe that' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor mechanical errors, such as the comma splice in 'this food has an amazing taste, I am sure people who likes savory flavors, particularly liked it.' Improving the use of transition words and ensuring consistent punctuation would help the text flow more naturally and elevate your score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'savory,' 'responsibility,' and 'consideration.' There are some minor word-choice errors, such as 'potato's paratha' (should be 'potato paratha') and 'allow people to aware about culture' (should be 'allow people to become aware of the culture'). While these errors do not impede communication, using more precise collocations would demonstrate a stronger command of the language. Focus on learning common word pairings to sound more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'organizing by our club' (should be 'organized by'), 'the only students' (should be 'the only student'), and 'people who likes' (should be 'people who like'). Additionally, there are issues with verb tense consistency, such as 'particularly liked it' instead of 'would like it.' While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing your focus on subject-verb agreement and passive voice construction will improve your accuracy.
