Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining why it should be included. Your tone is appropriate for a letter to a club member. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the dish is 'sweet' and 'brown', more descriptive language regarding its texture or ingredients would have made the proposal more persuasive. Additionally, the explanation for why it should be included relies on a generalization about people's preferences. To improve, try to provide more specific, well-supported reasons for your suggestions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your message. You use some basic cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'For Example', to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed due to grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as the transition in the third paragraph. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, and some sentences feel like a list of points rather than a cohesive argument. Improving your use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear central theme will help improve your score in this area.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific vocabulary like 'spicy', 'tangy', and 'main course'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'sweet tooth' used as an adjective ('are sweet tooth' instead of 'have a sweet tooth') and 'coarse' instead of 'course'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives would also enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I am happy heared' (tense error), 'I baught' (spelling error), 'Its a sweet dish' (missing apostrophe), and 'my dish will placed' (passive voice error). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, though they do not fully impede communication. To improve, focus on mastering basic verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation, particularly the use of apostrophes for contractions and possessives.
