Dear Luis,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Luis,

I would like to express my concern about an event related to famous food organising by club. As a member of an international student club, I would like to suggest Palak Paneer which is an Indian food that could be included in event.

Moreover, Palak Paneer is signature dish of India. basically, it is a dish of spinach and cottage cheese. Adding Indian spices can make it more delicious. This dish is always appreciated by every age group.

In my perspective, it should be definitely included in your menu as it would be loved by people of different nations. In addition to it, it is a healthy food as it is rich in proteins, nutrition. It is more like by fitness freak masses. People from cultures should taste it so they can also enjoy the taste of Indian food. As well as it would be proud moment for me as an Indian if we will add Indian dish on world level. I would definitely appreciate your effort.

Your Faithfully,

Naina

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining its inclusion. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to an organizer. However, the opening sentence is slightly confusing, as you express 'concern' about the event, which contradicts the positive nature of your offer. To improve, ensure your opening clearly states your purpose, such as 'I am writing to offer my assistance for the upcoming food event.' The ideas are relevant, but the development could be more professional to better suit the context of an international student club.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'In addition to it' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'In my perspective' (usually 'From my perspective') and 'As well as it would be'. The flow between sentences is generally clear, but improving the variety of your linking words would make the writing feel more cohesive and sophisticated. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus to avoid minor repetition of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'signature dish' and 'nutrition'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'fitness freak masses' (which is too informal) and 'famous food organising by club' (should be 'organized by the club'). Additionally, 'more like by' is a grammatical error for 'more liked by'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding informal slang, while ensuring that your word choices are grammatically integrated into the sentence structure.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'famous food organising by club' (missing articles and passive voice error), 'it is more like by' (incorrect verb form), and 'People from cultures should taste it' (vague phrasing). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor issues with article usage ('the' is often missing before nouns). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to limit the score in this criterion.
