Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Luis,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to request you that indian cuisine should be included too in our food festival.
To begin with, the dish could enhance the beauty of the menu. Henceforth, it would be much appreciated if this special dish from indian culture would be part of our event.
When I am describing the dish, which name called Gulab-jamun. It has its own fan base in india. This is kind of sweet dish which one can prefer to devour in desert. Apart from this, it will be more easier to digest with least amount of sugar it does contain. In addition to this, the way it serves in the plate is omnipresent and alluring to event participants.
However, any event should be ended up with the sweet moment therefore it adds sweetness in the closing ceremony. Moreover, the cost to produce and keep it require minimal efforts.
I hope you understand the importance of this popular dish and make it available to the function.
Yours dearest,
Binay.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: offering a dish, describing it, and explaining its inclusion. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why the dish should be included is a bit repetitive, focusing heavily on 'sweetness' and 'minimal effort' rather than providing a more compelling cultural or culinary argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that your reasons are more distinct and fully elaborated. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is left in no doubt about your intentions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Apart from this', and 'In addition to this'. However, some of these are used mechanically or slightly incorrectly, such as 'Henceforth', which is not appropriate in this context. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between describing the dish and explaining its inclusion could be smoother. The use of referencing is occasionally confusing, particularly in the sentence 'When I am describing the dish, which name called Gulab-jamun', which lacks a clear grammatical link to the previous paragraph.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, including words like 'alluring', 'omnipresent', and 'devour'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors. For example, 'the way it serves in the plate is omnipresent' is unnatural, and 'more easier' is a grammatical error that also affects lexical precision. You also use 'desert' when you mean 'dessert'. While your vocabulary is adequate to communicate your ideas, the frequent inaccuracies in word choice and the misuse of certain terms prevent you from achieving a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I am writing to request you that indian cuisine should be included', 'which name called Gulab-jamun', and 'it will be more easier'. Additionally, there are issues with article usage and verb forms. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and suggest a lack of control over complex structures. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct sentence construction will help improve your accuracy.
