Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Luis,

I am writing this letter with regards to participating in the event and I am excited to present a famous Indian dish called ‘Vadapav’.

It ie very enjoyable when club organizes different types of events, and one such event I am eagerly waiting for is presenting a popular dish from different countries. I wish to participate in this event and I would like to present a famous Indian dish called ‘Vadapav’.

This is a famous dish from a place called Mumbai situated in India. It can be compared with American burger. However, Vadapav is vegetarian, it patty is deep fried made with mashed potatoes and various types of masala. It is served with variety of sause which are different types; some are spicy, tangy, sweet and sour.

It should be event in the event because it brings a variety in the event. Many people may not be aware of Indian cuisine, and I am sure that people will like it. Moreover, encouraging make people will bring more variety on the table, which makes the event more successful.

Thank you so much for organizing such events.

Yours faithfully,

Hammock Pock

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining its inclusion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, you mention your desire to participate and the name of the dish twice in the opening paragraphs. To improve, ensure each paragraph introduces new information rather than restating previous points. The explanation for why the dish should be included is clear, but could be more persuasive by focusing on the cultural significance or the unique flavor profile of the dish to better engage the reader.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'however', 'moreover', and 'thank you so much', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between the introduction and the second paragraph is slightly disjointed due to the repetition of content. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas is smoother and less repetitive.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cuisine', 'vegetarian', and 'masala' effectively. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'it patty is deep fried' (should be 'its patty') and 'sause' (spelling error: 'sauce'). Additionally, the phrase 'it should be event in the event' is awkward and lacks precision. To improve, focus on accurate spelling and collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more descriptive adjectives for food would also enhance the quality of your writing and make your description more vivid for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'It ie very enjoyable' (typo/verb error), 'when club organizes' (missing article), and 'encouraging make people' (incorrect verb form). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and consistent verb tense usage. Proofreading for small slips like 'ie' instead of 'is' will also help improve your accuracy.
