| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly offer to prepare Biryani, describe its ingredients, and provide a logical justification for its inclusion in the event. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could elaborate on the cultural significance of the dish or describe the sensory experience of the food to make the proposal more persuasive. Overall, the task is fully addressed in a clear and relevant manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction to the description and finally the justification. Paragraphing is used, although the structure could be improved by separating the introduction, the body paragraphs, and the closing more distinctly. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'not only... but also' and 'because', but the flow is occasionally hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of varied linking words. To improve, try using a wider range of cohesive devices like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the dish and its ingredients clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'slow cooked', 'coriander', and 'varieties'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'arount the wold' instead of 'around the world' and 'attent' instead of 'attend'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited; using more sophisticated synonyms or descriptive adjectives would enhance the quality of your writing and help you achieve a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as missing articles ('in up coming event' should be 'in the upcoming event') and punctuation errors (missing spaces after periods). Subject-verb agreement is mostly accurate, but there are instances where the phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'I am writing to express my interest to present'. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures and proofreading for minor errors would significantly improve your score in this criterion.
