Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Luis,
I hope you are doing great. I am writing this letter to include my country's most popular dish "Butter Chicken with Garlic Naan" in the upcoming food event.
We all know that India has been popular for food from past few years. If i get a chance, i would like to make most delicious dish called Butter chicken which is from Punjab state and Garlic naan which is from north India. I owned one local cuisine which serve multi cuisines. Most of the customers who are white people love to eat this dish.
This dish has Indian spices with tomatoes and onions gravy with lots of butter in it. The Garlic Naan made in tandoor where we use smoky coal to make this bread and also use Garlic spread on it. The combination of both make really delicious dish for anyone.
As i mentioned earlier, most of the customer who visit my restaurant loves to have this dish almost every time. It would be great if i get a chance to serve this dish to all the international students.
I am looking forward to get spot in food events to showcase most popular dish of my country.
Warm regards,
Tez

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You offered to make a dish, described it, and explained why it should be included. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat repetitive; for instance, you mention the popularity of the dish in both the second and fourth paragraphs. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces new information rather than restating previous points. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose, moving from the introduction to the description and finally the justification. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'As I mentioned earlier' and 'If I get a chance', which help the flow. However, the transition between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'this dish') is always precise to avoid ambiguity. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using specific terms like 'tandoor', 'gravy', and 'cuisine'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'I owned one local cuisine which serve multi cuisines' (should be 'I own a restaurant that serves international cuisine') and 'get spot in food events' (should be 'get a spot in the food event'). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated collocations would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' missing before 'most delicious dish'), subject-verb agreement ('customer who visit... loves'), and capitalization ('i' instead of 'I'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation issues. While you attempt complex sentences, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and consistency in verb tenses will significantly enhance your writing quality.
