Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I am writing this letter to offer some suggestion for international student club. I am a native of India and India is popular worldwide for its not only traditional but also authentic dishes. Hence, I want to make a request for involving Indian dish called chapati and panner tikka. This is a popular food which is first time made in Panjab, and now this is famous around whole India.
In addition, There are some healthy ingredients used in preparing this delicious such as Panner which is excellent source of protein, cream is famous for its healthy fat and vegetables which are helpful to provide curbs to human body. Consequently, I am suggesting this dish as it is not only healthy but also this is mouthwatering food.
On the top of that, there are numerous students who are my friends and live in nearby of club venue want to taste recipes from India ,but Indian cafes are not available in our city. Thus, if you are including this food in your event, my foreign friends would be able to get taste of India.
I hope you will going to respect my advice regarding to food recipes.
Kind regards,
Sujal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You offered to make a dish, described it, and provided a clear rationale for its inclusion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation of why the dish should be included relies on the lack of Indian cafes rather than the cultural value of the food itself. To reach a higher band, ensure your supporting arguments are more fully extended and directly linked to the event's purpose of celebrating global food.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition,' 'Consequently,' and 'Thus' to connect your ideas. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or are used with minor errors, such as 'On the top of that,' which is a non-standard idiom (the correct form is 'On top of that'). Additionally, the referencing in the third paragraph ('nearby of club venue') is slightly awkward, which affects the flow of information. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the use of cohesive devices could be more natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, including terms like 'authentic,' 'ingredients,' and 'mouthwatering.' However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'curbs to human body' (likely meaning 'nutrients' or 'energy') and 'live in nearby of club venue.' These errors occasionally hinder the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that your word choices are contextually accurate. While the vocabulary is sufficient for the task, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I hope you will going to respect' (should be 'I hope you will respect'), 'first time made in Panjab' (should be 'was first made in Punjab'), and 'preparing this delicious' (should be 'preparing this dish'). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tense consistency and article usage. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures while reducing these minor errors will help you achieve a higher score.
