Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining why it should be included. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. The description of the dish is functional but lacks descriptive flair, and the explanation for its inclusion is a bit repetitive. To improve, ensure that your tone is consistently appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. While you have covered the requirements, the depth of your response could be enhanced by providing more specific details about the cultural significance of the dish or why it would specifically appeal to the diverse group of students in the club.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'After that' and 'After taken consideration'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the description of the dish and the justification for its inclusion is abrupt. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly. Additionally, ensure that your paragraphing is consistent and that each paragraph focuses on a single, clear topic.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some relevant food-related terms like 'saute', 'vegetables', and 'spices'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'wants offer a plate' (should be 'would like to offer a dish') and 'all aspirant's will enjoy' (which is an unusual use of 'aspirant'). To improve, focus on using more precise vocabulary and ensuring that your word choices are natural and appropriate for the context of a formal or semi-formal letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'a plate that can liked by everyone' (passive voice error), 'a boiled noodles' (article/plurality error), and 'After taken consideration' (preposition/participle error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of apostrophes and capitalization. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity of your writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct article usage will help you improve your score in this area.
