Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining why it should be included. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and occasionally confusing. For instance, the explanation of why the dish should be included relies on somewhat unusual reasoning regarding 'pregnant women' and 'childrens', which detracts from the professional tone required for a letter to an event organiser. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the content lacks the necessary focus and sophistication to reach a higher band. To improve, ensure your arguments are logical and relevant to the context of an international student event.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The transition between the opening request and the description of the dish is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as the repetitive use of 'Our country' and 'this dish'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of your argument. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic descriptors like 'special', 'favorite', and 'delicious'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'cruncy', 'potatos', 'yogut', 'paapdi', and 'pregnent', which are distracting. You also use incorrect word forms, such as 'childrens' (the plural of child is 'children') and 'maked' (the past tense of make is 'made'). To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common words and expanding your vocabulary to include more descriptive adjectives and precise culinary terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('mother maked for me'), subject-verb agreement, and awkward sentence structures ('I write to request you for the club organising'). The use of articles is also inconsistent. While you attempt some complex sentences, they are often faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb-object patterns, and review the rules for past tense formation and pluralisation. Proofreading for simple errors like 'i' instead of 'I' would also be beneficial.
