Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
My name is Janvi Parekh. I am a member of an international students' club. I heard that you are organizing an event to celebrate popular food around the world, So i thought I can also give some of the suggestions if you would like to add.
I come from a very diverse country and culture which is called India. I would love to add the dish called "Dabeli". I personally really love this dish. This dish is all about the spice and mixture of all tastes.
This dish is served in Bread. There is potato stuffing inside, with some spicy peanuts and crisps, and in addition, some chutney (sauce). I think people should try this dish out as they have never tried it before and it would give them idea about how other country's or cultures' food is.
In summary, I would love to hear your feedback. If you dont prefer this dish I can suggest some of the new dish as well as I have so many of them in my mind. I would love to participate.
Your sincerely,
Janvi Parekh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining its inclusion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why the dish should be included is a bit repetitive ('people should try this dish out as they have never tried it before'). To improve, you could elaborate more on the cultural significance or the unique flavor profile of the dish to make a more persuasive case for its inclusion in an international event.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'In summary' and 'In addition'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. For example, the transition between describing the dish and explaining why it should be included could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'I can suggest some of the new dish', which should be pluralized to 'new dishes'. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some specific terms like 'potato stuffing', 'chutney', and 'diverse'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'give them idea' (should be 'give them an idea') and 'I can suggest some of the new dish' (should be 'new dishes'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and less common collocations to describe the food, such as 'aromatic', 'savory', or 'a fusion of flavors'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'So i thought' (capitalization error), 'how other country's or cultures' food is' (awkward phrasing), and 'If you dont prefer' (missing apostrophe). Additionally, the closing 'Your sincerely' is incorrect; it should be 'Yours sincerely'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
