Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Luis
Regarding: Famous cousine recommendation for an event
I hope you are doing well. I came to know that you are arranging an event to represent the entire world through foods from different nations. I want to suggest about gulab jamun from my country. Individuals from entire world will like it. This sweet is prepared in all the events especially weddings in India. The brown round ball filled with sugar syrup, it really more delicious when it is hot and in some regions people add coconut powder on it for good presentation.
As I know Tim Hortans timbits resemble with Indian Gulab Jamun but there is a difference in taste. Also, timits are dry but brown balls filled with sugar syrup are usually served with extra syrup to make it's taste better.
Please let me know if any another information is required about this food.
Yours Sincerely
Sukhjeet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining its inclusion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. While you describe the gulab jamun, the explanation of why it should be included is brief and relies on a comparison to another snack rather than focusing on its cultural significance or appeal to an international audience. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting arguments are more fully extended and directly address the prompt's requirements with more depth.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, the description of the dish, and the comparison. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. For example, the transition between the description of the dish and the comparison to 'Timbits' feels abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', 'In addition to this') would improve the flow of your ideas and make the progression between sentences feel more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'representation', 'presentation', and 'resemble'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'famous cousine recommendation' (should be 'cuisine') and 'individuals from entire world' (should be 'the entire world'). Additionally, the phrase 'it really more delicious' is grammatically incorrect and lacks the precision expected at higher levels. To improve, focus on using more precise adjectives and ensuring that your word choices are contextually appropriate for a formal or semi-formal letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'I came to know that you are arranging' (a bit informal), 'make it's taste better' (incorrect possessive 'its'), and 'if any another information' (should be 'any other'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly enhance the accuracy of your writing.
