Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to you in regard of suggesting you to add up an popular dish from my country named as "Shahi Paneer" into the event of "food around the world" that is going to happen on 25th of this month. Being an member of the International student club, i strongly believe that if there are people coming from different parts of the world, they are definitely going to like this dish. it is really very delicious and it is a very famous dish in india. It is the perfect combination of indian spices and a creamy texture with some garnishing of cilantro, garlic, ginger and cheese. Moreover, it contains cubes of real cheese which is known as Paneer. In India, we usually consumes it with Bread which i think is the best dish in the world. I would highly recommend you add this dish to the event menu, you won't regret it for sure. rest its all up to you. whatever your decision is let me know.
Thanks
Your Faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You offered to make a dish, described it clearly, and provided a persuasive reason for its inclusion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser, maintaining a friendly and professional manner throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands both the nature of the dish and your enthusiasm for the event. To reach a higher band, ensure that your closing statement is more formal and consistent with the opening, as the current ending feels slightly abrupt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to the description of the dish and finally to the recommendation. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, the paragraphing is missing; the entire response is written as a single block of text. For a formal letter, it is essential to use clear paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, the body of the message, and the conclusion. Improving your paragraphing will significantly enhance the readability and structure of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'creamy texture' and 'perfect combination' are effective. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'in regard of suggesting' (should be 'with regard to suggesting') and 'garnishing of' (should be 'garnish of'). Additionally, 'consumes it with Bread' is slightly unnatural; 'eaten with flatbread' would be more precise. While your vocabulary is sufficient for the task, incorporating more precise culinary terminology would elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'an popular dish' (should be 'a popular'), 'Being an member' (should be 'a member'), and 'i strongly believe' (the pronoun 'I' must always be capitalized). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'we usually consumes it' (should be 'consume'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. Focus on proofreading for basic articles and capitalization.
