Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I hope you are doing well. I am excited for the upcoming "World Food Festival" event. I also want to appreciate you for being the main organizer.
However, I have one tiny request. I want to make an Indian dish called "Pav Bhaji" for the event. It is a renowned dish in my country India.
Furthermore, it is a combination of multiple vegetables like green papers, onions, potatoes, red chilies, tomatoes, cauli flowers, etc. We cut them into small pieces and fry them in butter after adding Indian spies. After that we smashed it and add small amount of water to make gravy. Later we serve it with breads.
According to me, this dish should be included in the festival because it is a healthy food with better taste. Usually people don't eat much vegetables but with this dish, people will be able to eat all vegetables at once.
I hope you will consider my request. I will wait for your positive response.
Thank You!
Yours Faithfully,
Malhar

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You offered to make a dish, provided a clear description of 'Pav Bhaji', and explained why it would be a valuable addition to the festival. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organizer. To improve, you could expand slightly on the cultural significance of the dish to make your argument for its inclusion more persuasive. The structure is logical, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, meeting the requirements for a Band 7 response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'After that' to link your ideas. While the flow is generally good, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, and each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that the progression between sentences is smoother and less reliant on simple sequencing words.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some specific terms like 'renowned' and 'combination'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'green papers' (should be 'bell peppers'), 'cauli flowers' (cauliflower), and 'spies' (spices). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common food items and try to incorporate more sophisticated adjectives to describe the taste and preparation of the food.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I also want to appreciate you' (better: 'I would like to thank you'), 'we smashed it' (should be 'we mash it'), and 'According to me' (better: 'In my opinion'). There are also minor issues with verb tense consistency and article usage. Despite these errors, the grammar is generally functional and does not cause confusion. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures and refining your verb tense usage will help you achieve a higher score.
