Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Luis,
I am super excited after knowing that we are going to organize Food Festival on 3rd October. I am also participating in that competition by offering the most popular dish from India which is called 'Panipuri'.
Panipuri is a mixture of different taste like a spicy , sweet and a tangy. Stuffing is made from potatoes and black chana which is very healthy. Puri is made by suji. Basically, we put stuffing in puri and add water into puri which is available in different colors like yellow , red and green and it is a crispy and healthy .
There are many reasons why it should be included in festival. Firstly, this dish is my personal favorite as well as it is nit only cheap but also healthy . Further more, This Dish won best dish award in my country, which is the biggest reason why it should be in competition.
I am looking forward for your response.
Thank you.
Best regards,
Heli.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining its inclusion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an organizer. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of 'Panipuri' is a bit repetitive and lacks descriptive flair, and the explanation for why it should be included relies on general statements like 'it is cheap' rather than focusing on the cultural or social value it would bring to an international food festival. To reach a higher band, try to expand on the sensory experience of the food or the specific impact it would have on the event's atmosphere.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'Further more' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly forced. For example, the jump from describing the ingredients to explaining why it should be included is a bit abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within each paragraph feels more natural and less like a list of separate statements.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'participating', 'mixture', and 'tangy'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'after knowing that' (should be 'to hear that') and 'mixture of different taste' (should be 'tastes'). Additionally, there is some repetition of basic words like 'dish' and 'healthy'. To improve, try to use more precise adjectives to describe the food and avoid repeating the same nouns. Expanding your vocabulary to include more idiomatic expressions or specific culinary terms would also help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally distract the reader. For example, there are issues with articles ('the' festival, 'a' spicy), subject-verb agreement, and capitalization ('This Dish'). Some sentences are also slightly fragmented or lack proper flow, such as 'Puri is made by suji.' (should be 'made from semolina'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focus on proofreading for basic article usage and prepositional accuracy.
