Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Luis,
I am writing this email to discuss an event to celebrate popular food from around the world.
Firstly, we should consider the importance of an event, which will contribute to the overall efficiency and well-being of the operation.
Also, if we take into account the likelihood of an international students club, it is expected to have a threefold effect for several reasons, including offering to make a popular dish from my country, describing the name and ingredients of the dish, and explaining why it should be included in the event.
Furthermore, rules and regulations should not be neglected as they can increase the chances of success, effectiveness, and quality of life.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Best regards,
Lovejeet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to address the core requirements of the prompt. While you mention the intention to write about a dish, you do not actually name, describe, or explain why the dish should be included. Instead, the letter uses generic, irrelevant filler phrases such as 'contribute to the overall efficiency and well-being of the operation' and 'rules and regulations should not be neglected.' These points are completely off-topic for a letter to a club organizer about a food event. Furthermore, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum, which severely limits your ability to develop the required ideas. To improve, focus strictly on the bullet points provided in the instructions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter is organized into paragraphs, and you use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly,' 'Also,' and 'Furthermore.' However, the logical progression is weak because the content of these paragraphs does not relate to the task. The ideas are disconnected from the prompt's requirements, making the overall flow confusing. While the paragraphing is technically present, the lack of relevant content means the letter does not function as a coherent piece of communication. To improve, ensure that each paragraph directly addresses one of the bullet points in the prompt.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
You demonstrate a reasonable range of vocabulary, such as 'efficiency,' 'likelihood,' and 'regulations.' However, these words are used in an unnatural and inappropriate context for a friendly letter to a club organizer. The language is overly formal and bureaucratic, which does not match the tone required for this task. You need to use vocabulary that is relevant to the topic of food and events. Focus on learning specific collocations related to cooking and social gatherings rather than using complex-sounding but empty phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The grammar is generally accurate in terms of sentence structure, and you use a mix of simple and complex sentences. There are no major errors that impede communication. However, the sentences are often awkward or nonsensical due to the inappropriate content. For example, 'it is expected to have a threefold effect' is grammatically correct but contextually bizarre. You have a good grasp of basic sentence construction, but you need to apply this to relevant, meaningful content to achieve a higher score.
