Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Luis,
I am writing this letter related to the event that you guys are going to organize in the first week of September.
The popular food festival around the world will going to organize from the 1 September to 7 September. I am here to offer to cook some popular dishes from my home town. As you know that I am from India and it is the country of culture and food. I will recommend you add the 'Rajasthani Kulfi' as a sweet and for the savoury item you can sell 'Veg Biryani'.
This two popular item is most famous among the youngster as well as adults in India. The kulfi is just like ice cream but in that you can make special by adding the fruits like 'chiku', 'orange' and many more which will enhance the flavor. Moreover, the Biryani is a spicy dish that contains rice and lots of vegetables. However, by giving 'dum' in Biryani which increase the test.
In perception in our event most of the International Students are from the India , so that you can put minimum price on it and gain good profit. I hope you considered idea and waiting for your kind response.
Kind Regards,
Moksh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: offering to cook a dish, describing it, and explaining its inclusion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organizer. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the dishes, the descriptions are quite brief and rely on simple comparisons. To reach a higher band, you should provide more vivid detail about the preparation or the sensory experience of the food. Additionally, the explanation for why the dishes should be included is slightly underdeveloped, focusing more on profit than on the cultural value or appeal of the food to the event attendees.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'However', to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as using 'However' to introduce a point that does not contrast with the previous one. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'This two popular item', where the pronoun does not correctly agree with the plural noun.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'savoury', 'enhance', and 'flavor'. However, there are several instances of word choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'it is the country of culture and food' and 'increase the test' (likely meaning 'taste'). Some vocabulary is repetitive, and there is a lack of more sophisticated or precise collocations that would elevate the writing. While your meaning is generally clear, the errors in word formation and choice prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('This two popular item is'), tense errors ('will going to organize'), and article usage mistakes ('from the India'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable and occur regularly. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that tense consistency is maintained across your sentences. More attention to proofreading for these common grammatical slips would significantly enhance the quality of your writing.
