Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Luis,
I'm writing to express my willingness to participate in an event, which is to be organized by our club.
I am thinking of making a very popular Indian receipe, which I got from my grandmother, when I was young. Actually, I have already won a few competitions back home for this dish, and I'm absolutely sure that it would be liked by all the guests. Moreover, this dish is also a part of menu in some well-renowned restaurants of my country.
About the receipe, it is called Kheer, in our language, which means a sweet rice pudding, and the addition of soaked nuts would definitely enhance its taste. This could be included in the main desserts' list for the event.
I certainly believe that everybody is going to enjoy this sweet-dish, and we will be getting a lot of praises from all the members of the event. Apart from that, as most of the guests taking part in the event are from India, so they would be delighted to taste this dish, and can feel like home. Therefore, I presume, that this should be a part of our menu for sure.
Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to your prompt response, so that I can start my preparation as soon as possible.
Yours sincerely,
Manphool Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly offered to make a dish, described it as a sweet rice pudding called Kheer, and provided a logical explanation for its inclusion, noting both its cultural significance and its appeal to the guests. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organizer, maintaining a polite and enthusiastic register throughout. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the outset. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Apart from that', and 'Therefore' to link your sentences and ideas effectively. The progression of information is smooth, moving from the offer to the description and finally the justification. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the overall structure is coherent.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, such as 'well-renowned', 'delighted', and 'consideration'. However, there are some minor spelling errors, such as 'receipe' (recipe), which appears twice. While these do not impede communication, they prevent a higher score. You use some specific terminology related to food, which is appropriate for the context. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic expressions to show greater flexibility in your word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound. There are a few minor punctuation and grammatical slips, such as the unnecessary comma in 'I presume, that this should be' and the pluralization in 'desserts' list'. However, these are infrequent and do not cause confusion. Your control over verb tenses is generally good, and the overall accuracy is high, which supports clear communication throughout the letter.
