Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Luis,
I hope this finds you well. I am a member of the XYZ International Students' club. I am writing to inform you that we are hosting an event to celebrate delicious food from different parts of the globe.
I am passionate about preparing "Dosa", which is one of the most loved and widely consumed dishes throughout India. It is rich in nutrients as it comprises of rice flour, yogurt and wheat. It is extremely soft, and crispy. This Indian delight can also be combined with freshly baked potatoes for a perfect meal. Preparing one is a straightforward and an easy process.
Firstly, it is extremely tasty and I am certain that everyone will feel this way at the event. Adding to this, the unique shape and symmetry of this mouth watering favorite attracts a lot of people. A small stall will be sufficient as it does not require a great space too.
I look forward to discussing with you, the possibility of introducing this wonderful food at the event.
Kind regards,
Susan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You offered to make a 'Dosa', provided a clear description of its ingredients and texture, and explained why it would be a valuable addition to the event (taste, visual appeal, and space efficiency). The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organizer. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, showing a clear purpose throughout the letter. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a polite closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly' and 'Adding to this' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different aspects of your request. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the relationship between sentences is clear. The letter flows well from the initial offer to the final request for discussion.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using descriptive terms like 'widely consumed', 'straightforward', and 'symmetry'. There is an attempt to use more sophisticated language, such as 'mouth watering' and 'delight'. While some word choices are standard, they are used accurately and appropriately for the context. There are no significant spelling or word-choice errors that impede communication. To reach a higher band, you could incorporate more precise collocations or less common idiomatic expressions related to food and events.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your control of punctuation is generally good. There is a minor error in the phrase 'comprises of' (it should be 'comprises' or 'is composed of'), and a slight punctuation issue in the final paragraph regarding the comma placement. However, these are minor slips that do not affect the clarity of your message. Your grammar is consistent and supports the overall professional tone of the letter.
