Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

I hope you are doing well,

I am writing this letter to explain you about one dish from my country, and I would like to promote it on our event. I am member of international student's club.

I am from India, which is famous for different food, as well as we have plenty of veriety of food, which is really special.

I would like to recommend one dish from arunacchal pradesh, which is one state of India, and dish name is "ponta-bhat". Basically, this dish is best food according to me, because it has easy process to make it along with cheap in the cost.

For making this dish we have to use left over rice and furmanted it in buttermilk over night. On the very next day, put some oil, green chillies, mixture of mash potatoes and paper and salt. I promice process is very simple, but not a food. It is really full filling food and people eat that for prevent from heat wave specially in summer.

Because of this reason, I would like to include in event with your agreement, I would appreciate you if you include this dish in the event.

Your faithful,

Riddhi barot

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining its relevance to the event. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why the dish should be included is a bit repetitive and lacks depth. To improve, ensure that your reasons are clearly articulated and directly linked to the event's goal of celebrating popular food. You successfully maintained a consistent purpose throughout the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some basic cohesive devices, such as 'Because of this reason' and 'For making this dish'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel slightly disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and phrases would help create a more natural progression of ideas throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the dish and the process of making it. You use some specific terms like 'fermented' and 'buttermilk', which is good. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'explain you about' instead of 'explain to you' and 'paper' instead of 'pepper'. There is also some repetition of basic words like 'food' and 'dish'. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of vocabulary and ensure that collocations are accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I am member of' (missing article), 'veriety' (spelling), 'cheap in the cost' (awkward phrasing), and 'prevent from heat wave' (incorrect preposition/structure). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and the closing salutation 'Your faithful' (should be 'Yours faithfully'). These errors do not significantly impede communication, but they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency of your writing.
