Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
As a member of International Students's club, I saw an email that the club is organising an event to celebrate a popular food item around the world. I request you to give me a chance to participate in this event.
I want to present a dish named Dosa, which is very popular from my region, India. This non-oily, crispy dish is made from rice flour mixed with lentils. The preparation of this dish starts two days early as it is a fermented dish.
This dish had many benefits to human health. People who are experiencing gut-related problem, or cardiac issues can consume this food without any regret. Indiviuals of any age group can have Dosa. It is a under-rated but one of the healthiest dishes from my country, which had huge advantage to mankind.
I request you to accept my offer so that I can introduce this dish around the globe. I will never disappoint you regarding my acceptance.
Thank you.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You offered to make a dish, described it clearly as a fermented rice and lentil-based food, and explained its health benefits as a reason for its inclusion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanation of why the dish should be included is more directly linked to the event itself—for example, by mentioning how it would add variety or appeal to the international audience attending the celebration.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'As a member of', 'I want to', and 'This dish'. However, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly. For instance, the transition between describing the dish and explaining its health benefits is a bit abrupt. Using more sophisticated cohesive devices would help the reader follow your argument more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some specific terms like 'fermented', 'gut-related', and 'cardiac issues'. There are a few minor errors in word choice, such as 'huge advantage to mankind', which sounds slightly unnatural in this context. Additionally, 'International Students's club' contains a minor grammatical error in the possessive form. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid slightly awkward phrasing to demonstrate a more flexible command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'This dish had many benefits' (should be 'has') and 'It is a under-rated' (should be 'an'). The use of articles and verb tenses needs more attention to ensure accuracy. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve the overall quality of your writing.
