Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining its importance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of 'dal bhaat' is quite brief, and the explanation of why it should be included could be more persuasive by focusing on the cultural significance or the unique flavor profile. To improve, try to expand on your points with more descriptive detail to fully engage the reader and demonstrate a more comprehensive response to the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, the description of the dish, and the justification for its inclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition 'Therefore' is used, but the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. Some sentences feel slightly disjointed, such as the transition between describing the ingredients and the serving method. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that ideas flow more naturally from one to the next would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'traditional', 'representative', and 'consideration'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that slightly hinder the precision of your writing. For example, 'add our traditional dish in the popular food event representative our country' is awkward and grammatically unclear. Additionally, 'mix up together' is informal and could be replaced with more precise culinary terminology. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary and ensuring that words are used in their correct collocations to express your ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an ability to use simple sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'This dishes is popular'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'I am only the one member who is from Nepal in the. International students club'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable and occur frequently. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with pluralization and article usage. Incorporating a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, would also help demonstrate better grammatical control.
