Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to express my gratitude that our international students' club is going to organize an event in order to celebrate popular food from all over the world.
I would like to suggest to add one of the most popular dishes from my country in this event. Since, along with adding variety, it would also be liked by everyone because of its taste.
The dish is a rice pudding as it is a traditional dish of my home country. This dish is made by all the people of my nation on special occasions. In addition, it is very easy to make as very few ingredients are used in order to prepare it, such as rice, milk, milk powder and sugar. By adding some dry fruits, its taste can be enhanced more but they are totally optional to add.
I would appreciate it if it is included in the event menu as it would be healthy option. While preparing it, all the high-quality and healthy ingredients are used, so people can enjoy it.
I hope my recommendation would be considered. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Soni.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly offered to make a dish, described it as a traditional rice pudding, and explained its suitability for the event. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. To reach a higher band, ensure your explanations are more fully developed; for instance, instead of stating it is a 'healthy option' without much evidence, you could elaborate on why international students might appreciate a traditional, home-cooked comfort food. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a polite closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'While', and 'Since' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the progression between sentences is smoother. For example, the transition between describing the ingredients and the health benefits could be more fluid. Paragraphing is used correctly, which helps the reader follow your argument easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. You use relevant terms like 'variety', 'enhanced', and 'recommendation'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'suggest to add' (should be 'suggest adding') and 'all the people of my nation' (which is slightly unnatural). While you use some less common vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. For example, instead of 'very easy to make', you could use 'straightforward to prepare'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am writing to express my gratitude that our... is going to organize' (the gratitude is for the event, not the organization) and 'Since, along with adding variety...' (the comma after 'Since' is unnecessary). Additionally, 'all the high-quality and healthy ingredients are used' is slightly awkward. You have good control over basic structures, but more consistent accuracy in complex sentences would be required for a higher band score.
