Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
Hope you are doing well. As we are going to hold the festival of celebrating the well-known food from various regions of world, being the active member of the International Students club I would like to eagerly participate in this event with some idea mentioned in this letter.
Firstly, I would like to suggest to prepare the authentic and famous dish from our country which is "pani-puri" kknown as water balloons in English. This dish is extremely popular in each state of India.
Moreover, the dish is divided into three various parts, but all of them eaten together. The first is the "Puri"- which is round in shap and fried with a hole in it. Next is the filling- which is placed inside the fried puri, made up of potatoes. Finally there is mint and corrinder which is also placed inside the puri.
I believe, that we can surely include this dish as it quite quick to prepare, most of the teenagers will love this and ofcourse can be eaten atanytime whitout the fear illness or any diseases due to the intake of this.
I hope that you like my idea.
Thank you,
Best regards,
Mesha Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly offered to make a dish, described it, and provided reasons for its inclusion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why the dish should be included is a bit vague, particularly the comment about 'fear of illness,' which is slightly confusing in this context. To reach a higher band, ensure your supporting arguments are more logical and clearly articulated to fully persuade the reader.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure with clear paragraphing for each point. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly,' 'Moreover,' and 'Finally,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow. For example, the sentence 'all of them eaten together' lacks a clear subject, and the connection between the description of the dish and the justification for its inclusion could be smoother. Overall, the message is easy to follow, but the use of cohesive devices could be more natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'authentic,' 'participate,' and 'well-known.' There are some spelling errors, such as 'kknown,' 'shap,' 'corrinder,' 'atanytime,' and 'whitout,' which are distracting. Additionally, some word choices are slightly awkward, such as 'fear illness.' While you attempt to use descriptive language to explain the dish, the vocabulary is somewhat basic. To improve, focus on accuracy in spelling and try to incorporate more precise collocations to describe food and cultural events.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the festival of celebrating' (should be 'a festival to celebrate'), 'being the active member' (should be 'as an active member'), and 'all of them eaten together' (should be 'all of them are eaten together'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and spacing. These errors occur frequently but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing your control over basic sentence construction will help improve your score.
