Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all three bullet points: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining its inclusion. However, the development is limited. The description of the dish is repetitive, and the explanation for its inclusion lacks depth. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the tone is somewhat informal and lacks the polish expected for a formal request to an event organizer. The ideas are relevant but could be expanded with more descriptive language to better meet the requirements of a 'fully developed' response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the flow between sentences is often disjointed. There is a lack of varied cohesive devices; the writing relies on simple sentence structures and basic transitions. Some referencing is unclear, such as the phrase 'In this way they can represent their countries popular dish', which does not connect smoothly to the previous sentence. The progression of ideas is present but feels mechanical rather than natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. For example, the word 'popular' is used multiple times in the first two paragraphs, and 'dish' is repeated frequently. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'Internatinal' and 'fomous'. The student struggles to use a range of vocabulary to express ideas precisely, relying on basic descriptors. To improve, the student should focus on synonyms and more specific adjectives to describe the food and the event.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with article usage ('a Internatinal Students club'), verb tense consistency, and sentence construction ('they will this dish'). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. Complex structures are attempted but are often faulty, such as 'Because , I want showcase my country food taste'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods.
