Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing this letter to request that a famous dish from my country be included in the event happening next month, celebrating popular food from different parts of the world.
Firstly, I truly appreciate your effort of organising this event where people from different countries celebrate their food. I also wants to be a part of this event. I am from India, and I want to make a dish named "Shahi Pneer". This dish is a famous currey in different parts of the coutry. Moreover, different regions has their different styles to make this dish. I will prepare it in Punjabi style.
Moving forward, "Shahi Paneer" is basically a cottage cheese with various spices. People usually eat cottage cheese as sweet or without flavour. However, this dish is salty. It is good for consumers to taste in different ways. I will make sure that keep the spices mild so that everyone can taste it.
Furthermore, I love cooking. Also, I am expert in making this dish. It is the great opportunity for me since I can get the view from the people from other nations about this dish.
I would appreciate if will get the chance being part of this event. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours Faithfully
David

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly offered to make a dish, described it as cottage cheese with spices, and explained why it should be included, noting its cultural significance and the opportunity for feedback. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. To reach a higher band, ensure that your descriptions are slightly more detailed; for example, you could elaborate on the specific flavor profile of the dish to make it more enticing for the reader. Overall, the task requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to transition between ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor mechanical errors in sentence structure. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points of the letter. To improve, try to vary your cohesive devices further and ensure that the relationship between sentences is always smooth and natural, rather than relying on a standard list of transition words.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'appreciate', 'consideration', and 'opportunity'. However, there are several spelling errors, including 'Pneer' (Paneer), 'currey' (curry), and 'coutry' (country). These errors are noticeable but do not impede the overall meaning of your letter. To achieve a higher score, focus on accuracy in spelling and try to incorporate more precise adjectives to describe the food, moving beyond simple terms like 'salty' or 'mild' to more descriptive culinary language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'I also wants to be' (I also want to be), 'different regions has' (different regions have), and 'I will make sure that keep' (I will make sure to keep). While these errors are frequent, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and infinitive structures. Increasing your control over these basic grammatical rules will significantly enhance the clarity and professionalism of your writing.
