IELTS Writing Task 1 question

You are a member of an International Students' club. The club is organising an event to celebrate popular food from around the world.

Write a letter to the event organiser, Luis. In your letter

• offer to make a popular dish from your country
• describe what this dish is
• explain why it should be included in the event

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Luis,

I am wiring to express my interest to make a popular dish from my country for upcoming event at the club. Since, the idea of this event is to celebrate popular food from around the world, I would like to bring Chiki which is a sweet food item. Its mostly prepared to celebrate new year and as a token of happiness.

It's similar to rice crips but it can be made with different ingredients such as peanuts, puffed rice or dry fruits. Its mixed with jaggery or sugar as binding element. As part of new year celebrations, its often recommended to start with something sweet. The idea behind serving that dish is assumed to start new year with something sweet and wishing rest of the year to be sweet and also being sweet or polite to others.

Since, it has emotional and spiritual meaning, I would appreciate if this can be included in the event. This would indeed help to portray my country's culture.
