Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
Hopefully, you have been keeping well. I really excited for our upcoming event to celebrate different cuisines around the world.
I would really want if our event planner also represent his country's famous dish. We will also know about your cultural food and It will add more variety in our food event.
It would exciting if you add pineapple pancakes with chocolate topping as i remember you told me once about this that it is famous in your country and specially from your home town.
I really want to taste that pancakes again and i am pretty sure that everyone from our club event will like it. Also, it has some sweet and sour taste which is very unique and hardly seen in foods.
I hope you will take my request into consideration and bring this food item in our event. I will look forward to see your response.
Thank you for your time

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: offering a dish, describing it, and explaining its inclusion. However, there is a significant misunderstanding regarding the task instructions. You were asked to offer to make a dish from your own country, but you instead asked the recipient (Luis) to bring a dish from his country. This misinterpretation of the role-play scenario impacts the task fulfilment. While the ideas are relevant, the development is slightly confused because you are asking the organiser to do the task rather than fulfilling the requirement yourself. To improve, ensure you carefully identify who is performing which action in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the different points, which helps the reader follow your ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between paragraphs could be smoother; phrases like 'It would exciting' and 'I really want' are used in a way that feels slightly mechanical. Using a wider variety of linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' would help improve the flow and logical progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'event planner', 'cuisines', and 'cultural food'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'represent his country's famous dish' (instead of 'prepare' or 'present') and 'hardly seen in foods' (instead of 'rarely found in dishes'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Your spelling is generally accurate, but ensure you pay attention to basic word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For instance, 'I really excited' is missing the verb 'am', and 'I would really want if our event planner also represent' contains errors in verb tense and modal usage. Additionally, there are punctuation and capitalization issues, such as 'i' instead of 'I' and 'It' capitalized mid-sentence. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
