Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Luis,

I am writing to inform you that our club is organizing an event to celebrate most famous food from around the global.

The member of International Students' club I want you to add some famous dish from my country (India ). It is diverse culture country mainly famous for its food and traditions. Although their are a lot of famous dish in my country if I have choose one I will pick jalebi this is make on different festivals in my country.

If I talk about the appearance of this dish is orange in colour and very sweet in taste, moreover this dish is make with few ingredients such as flour, sugar, water and oil and most interestingly it save time and energy while preparing it and is in reasonable price.

I think it should be included in event menu because it is really amazing in taste and someone eat it once they going to take it again and again even this dish is good for health because it have high protein and fibrous in it which is really good for health.

I am looking forward for suggestions.

Your sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining why it should be included. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why the dish should be included relies on claims about health benefits that are not fully supported or logically connected to the context of a student club event. To improve, ensure that your arguments are more focused on the social or cultural aspects of the event to better persuade the reader.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'although', 'moreover', and 'if I talk about'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the logical progression is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between describing the dish and explaining its preparation. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that your referencing (e.g., 'this dish') is always clear will help improve the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your ideas, such as 'diverse culture', 'ingredients', and 'reasonable price'. However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'around the global' instead of 'around the globe' and 'it save time' instead of 'it saves time'. Some phrasing is also slightly unnatural, such as 'someone eat it once they going to take it again'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that your word forms are accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('their are a lot of famous dish'), missing articles, and incorrect verb tenses ('this is make' instead of 'this is made'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly verb forms and pluralisation, and proofread your work to catch these slips.
