Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly offer to make a dish, describe it as 'Aloo prantha' made with wheat flour and potatoes, and explain its inclusion due to the cultural diversity of the club. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why it should be included is repetitive, focusing on the audience 'getting to know' the dish multiple times. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details about the dish's cultural significance or its unique flavor profile to better engage the reader.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'In addition to this' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. For example, the transition between the description of the dish and the reason for its inclusion feels a bit mechanical. Additionally, the opening sentence is quite convoluted, making it difficult to identify the main purpose immediately. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on simple descriptors like 'wonderful taste' and 'popular dish'. There are also some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'wheat flow' instead of 'wheat flour'. While the meaning is clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and you do not demonstrate the ability to use less common or more sophisticated lexical items. To improve, try to incorporate more descriptive adjectives and precise culinary terms to make your writing more engaging and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('let you that i am a meeting'), missing articles, and punctuation errors, such as the space before the comma in 'Dear Luis ,'. The sentence structure in the first paragraph is particularly fragmented and difficult to follow. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and proper sentence punctuation will significantly improve your accuracy.
