Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
Hope you are doing well. I am writing about concerning to cook a traditional dish for the up coming event to celebrate global popular food.
I am Faiza Akram a member of International Students club. I am from Punjab, Pakistan. I would like to cook a traditional Pakistani food Dham Qeema Aloo for the festival. It is a oldest food of Asia and a mixture of Turkey and Pakistani spices. The reason of specialty is that it cooked for centuries and its a combo of fresh meet and vegetables.
Moreover, it cooks very deliberately on low heat wood made oven. Additionally, marinate the lamb mince meet into yogurt with different potatoes and tomatoes a night before. Next day pure the material into a clay pot and put it in pre heated clay oven for 3 hours. No artifficel oil is in its cooking it prepare it on natural fat. which make it healthy and low calories diet.
The reason why I presented this dish in this event that I am the only one from the Asia how represent their traditional food. Furthermore, most of the participants are European including students so they will like it because of its different flavor and traditional clay pot preparation that many of them might not know about because this is old method of cooking used in 1700 century.
I am looking forward from you as soon as possible.
Yours sincerely,
Faiza Akram

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly offered to cook a dish, provided a descriptive explanation of 'Dham Qeema Aloo', and gave a logical reason for its inclusion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the description of the cooking process, which adds a personal touch to the letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that all claims are fully accurate; for example, the historical claims about the dish's origin are a bit vague, but this does not significantly detract from the task completion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally clear, moving from the introduction to the description of the dish and finally the justification for its inclusion. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the referencing between sentences is smoother to avoid a slightly disjointed flow in the second paragraph.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using specific terms like 'marinate', 'clay pot', and 'traditional'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'concerning to cook', 'pure the material' (likely meaning 'pour'), and 'artifficel oil'. These errors occasionally hinder the precision of your writing. While you attempt to use more descriptive language, the spelling errors (e.g., 'artifficel', 'meet' instead of 'meat') and collocation issues suggest that your lexical control is at a mid-level. Focusing on accurate spelling and common collocations will help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'It is a oldest food' (should be 'the oldest'), 'its a combo' (should be 'it's'), and 'I am the only one from the Asia how represent' (should be 'who represents'). Additionally, there are issues with verb tense consistency and article usage. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of the text. Increasing your focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
