Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Luis,
I hope you are doing well. Thank you for organizing the international food festival. It will provide an opportunity to taste the famous dishes from around the world.
My name is Pranusha, one of the members of the international student club. I am writing today to request that you add a food which is famous in my place. A dish popularly known as biryani, it's a tasty and a balanced meal. It is a healthy food similar to a chipotle rice bowl, in addition to that the rice in it has more flavor than chipotle.
When coming to the ingredients, it can be prepared in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian versions so it can attract the majority of the visitors. Additionally, it will give an opportunity for the south Indian business people to enter into the Canadian restaurant business.
I strongly believe many people will enjoy the dish and it will create huge profits for the event. I sincerely hope you will consider my request and i would be happy to discuss if you need any further details about the dish.
Best regards,
Pranusha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly offer to make a dish, describe it as a balanced meal with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, and explain its potential for the event. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The comparison to a 'chipotle rice bowl' is a bit informal and distracting, and the point about 'south Indian business people' entering the Canadian restaurant market feels slightly off-topic for a student club event. To reach a higher band, ensure your reasons for inclusion focus more on the cultural or social benefits for the club members rather than commercial business interests.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the description of the dish, and the concluding offer. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally' and 'When coming to', though the latter is a bit informal. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the description of the dish and the business-related justification could be smoother. Overall, the information is easy to follow, and the letter maintains a consistent tone throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'balanced meal', 'ingredients', and 'sincerely'. However, some word choices are slightly repetitive or imprecise, such as 'famous in my place' and 'tasty'. The attempt to describe the dish is functional but lacks the descriptive flair that would elevate the score. There are no significant spelling errors, and the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey your message clearly, though it does not yet show the flexibility or precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While most sentences are clear, there are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'add a food which is famous' (should be 'add a dish') and the lowercase 'i' in the final paragraph. The sentence 'When coming to the ingredients, it can be prepared...' is a slightly awkward construction. Despite these minor errors, your meaning is never obscured, and the punctuation is generally functional. To improve, focus on ensuring consistent capitalization and refining complex sentence structures.
