Dear Luis,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dera Luis,
I hope you are doing well. I heard that International Students club is organising an event to celebrate popular food from around the world. I am writing to inform you about our country famous dish that I am planning to offer.
As you know, India is rich in culture. We celebrate festivals with great pomp and show. On every festivals we make rice pudding and its one of the most delicious and favorite dish in India.
It is made up of rice and milk. The dish would be sweet in taste and having different flavors like cinnamon, sweet, creamy and smooth. Honestly, suitable for all-age groups.
I strongly believe that is should be included in the event as most of the audiences would be from North America and as an Indian we all know have sweet teeth. Best part is that, the process is not time consuming. It will only take 15 minutes to cook rice pudding.
Let me know your thoughts. Looking forward to hear from you soon.
Your's Faithfully.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: offering a dish, describing it, and explaining why it should be included. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an event organiser. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why the dish should be included relies on a generalization about North American audiences and their preference for sweets. To reach a higher band, you could expand on the cultural significance of the dish or how it would specifically enhance the event's atmosphere. The response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used, though the transition between the description of the dish and the justification for its inclusion could be smoother. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'As you know' and 'I strongly believe', but the flow is occasionally interrupted by short, choppy sentences. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some minor mechanical errors in punctuation (such as the closing salutation) slightly affect the overall professional presentation of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'pomp and show', 'time consuming', and 'flavors'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'our country famous dish' (should be 'my country's famous dish') and 'have sweet teeth' (the idiom is 'have a sweet tooth'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over idiomatic expressions and possessive structures. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives would further enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'On every festivals' (should be 'On every festival'), 'is should be included' (should be 'it should be'), and 'Looking forward to hear' (should be 'Looking forward to hearing'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors in the closing, such as 'Your's Faithfully.' which should be 'Yours faithfully,'. While these errors are frequent, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of gerunds after specific phrases.
