Dear Luis,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Luis,

I am writing this essay to express my views regarding putting one of most famous dishes named as " Saag". Most of the people whether belong to my nation or not, all of them love that food so much. Along with this, this requires only minimal amount of budget to prepare for a group of people.

I am very glad to tell you that this dish is so much healthy as it includes the green leaves and corn flour to prepare it. It also includes ginger, garlic and mint leaves which are much more effective for our stomach.

I think that adding this dish in the event make it more attractive for all the immigrants. Apart from that, it doesn't need any specific things to cook, it only requires the regular spices. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me, also I can arrange all the material for that as well.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: offering to make a dish, describing it, and explaining its suitability. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the ingredients of 'Saag', the description lacks sensory detail or cultural context that would make the contribution more engaging. Additionally, the tone is slightly inconsistent; you refer to the letter as an 'essay' in the opening sentence, which is inappropriate for a personal letter format. To reach a higher band, ensure your ideas are more fully developed and maintain a consistent, appropriate tone throughout the correspondence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Along with this', 'Apart from that', and 'In addition', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure could benefit from more sophisticated linking words to connect your arguments more fluidly. Paragraphing is used correctly to separate the introduction, the description of the dish, and the concluding offer of assistance.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'minimal amount of budget' and 'attractive for all the immigrants'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'putting one of most famous dishes' is awkward; a more natural phrasing would be 'proposing one of our most famous dishes'. Similarly, 'this dish is so much healthy' should be 'this dish is very healthy'. You rely on fairly basic vocabulary, and while it is sufficient for the task, you need to incorporate more precise and varied language to achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For instance, 'Most of the people whether belong to my nation or not' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'Most people, whether they belong to my nation or not'. There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'adding this dish in the event' instead of 'adding this dish to the event'. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score.
